लेखु जो तस्वीर बनाये उसे कोई समझ न पाये इस गाने ने ना जाने हमारे अंदर के साइंटिस्ट की जिज्ञासा को जगा दिया था ये बात उन दिनों की है जब दूरदर्शन पर लेखु सीरियल आता था। ये बात हमारे बचपन के उन दिनों की है जब सारे दोपहर हम बच्चे, नई, नई तरीकों शरारत करते रहते थे. उन दिनों सिर्फ दूरदर्शन मनोरंजन का जरिया था और उसका समय बहुत ही सीमित था। रविवार को जहां मोगली और बल्लू के इंतजार में मैं निकल जाता था वही बुधवार को चित्रहार मैं कितने गाने देख लेंगे वही याद रहता। फिर एक दिन हमारे महोल्ले में एक अजीब सा पोस्टर दिखा ज्योतोविजन का साथ मैं हमें दुकान की छत पर एक उल्टी लगी सुरक्षित छतरी जो कि रेडियो या टीवी स्टेशन पर होती थी। ज्योतोविजन नाम से दूरदर्शन जैसे तो नहीं लगा पर जिज्ञासा तो बढ़ ही गई थी। उन दिनों टीवी या वीसीआर पर ही नई फिल्में लगती थीं और उसका भी इस कदर मांग रहती थी कि लोग एक दिन में अक्सर 3 फिल्में देख लेते थे। मूवी वीसीआर पे देखना वो भी सारे परिवार या कहे सारे रिस्तेदारों के साथ एक त्यौहार सा ही होता था। कलर टीवी और वीसीआर घरो में होना अमीरी की निसानी होती थी। वीडियो कास्ट्स की लाइब्रेरीज़ की दुकान भी आम होती थी.

ज्योतिविजन वीडियो कैसेट या वीसीआर की दुकान से अलग थी तो हम सबके आकर्षण का केंद्र भी थी। समझ नहीं आया था कि असल में डिश से होता क्या होगा। फ़िर अचानक एक दिन महुल्ले मैं अपने एक पड़ोसी अंकल को अपने घर की बालकनी से कुछ तार लटकते हुए देखा। वो इलेक्ट्रिक कटिया का तार तो नहीं लगता था और इसलिए ज्योतिविजन के केबल के तार से बस टच करते हुए पड़ा सा था। उसको देख के ये तो पक्का लगा कि ये बिजली के लिए नहीं है। जिज्ञासा रोज ही बढ़ती जा रही थी, क्योंकि अंकल जी रोज ही एक निश्चित समय पर तार लटका देते थे। आख़िरकार एक दिन रहस्य से पर्दा हट गया जब उनके घर ही अचानक हम सब बच्चे पहुँच गए। हम सब बच्चों का अपना बहाना बाल आ गई है छत पे। हमें अपनी आँखों पे यकीन नहीं हुआ जब देखा कि टीवी पर नई फिल्म आ रही थी वो भी बिना किसी वीसीआर के।

अंकल ने तब बताया कि ये जो ज्योतिविजन का केबल है ये ना केबल टीवी का वायर है। अगर टीवी एंटीना का वायर उसके पास रखो तो सिग्नल कैच होता है और तुम केबल टीवी देख सकते हो। केबल टीवी हमारे समय एकदुम नई चीज थी जब चैनल बदलना ही नई बात थी। जहां 12 चैनल होते थे और उनको भी घुमाने के लिए टीवी के पास ही नोब होता था। खैर अंकल के रहस्य उद्घाटन से हम सारे बच्चे इंजीनियर बन गए अपने टीवी के पीछे से तार कनेक्ट करके केबल टीवी तक ले जाना। फिर आया नहीं आया को वो दौर की बस किसी तरह केबल टीवी से साफ साफ आ जाए। हम सब की वो भी मजबूरी थी कि पापा को ना पता चले नहीं तो सारा मनोरंजन बंद हो जाएगा। फिर कुछ दिनों बाद पापा को भी पता चला और थोड़े दिन बाद ज्योतिविजन का कनेक्शन भी लग गया।

एक सच ये है कि उसके बाद ना जाने कितने चैनल आने लगे मनोरंजन ना जाने कितना गुना हो गया पर वो जो केबल टीवी को चुप छुपा के तार फासा के देखने में वो अलग ही था

हमें याद है कि जब पहली बार केबल टीवी वो तार लगाने पर आई तो हमें लगा कि हम लोगों ने क्या चीज खोजी है। कुछ छोटा सा पुरस्कार तो मिलना ही चाहिए

No one could understand the picture made by Lekhu. This song had awakened the curiosity of the scientist inside us. This incident happened in those days when Lekhu serial used to air on Doordarshan. This is about those days of our childhood when we children used to keep doing mischief in new and new ways all afternoon. In those days, Doordarshan was the only medium of entertainment and its time was very limited. While on Sundays I would go out to wait for Mowgli and Baloo, on Wednesdays I would remember how many songs I would watch in Chitrahar. Then one day, I saw a strange poster in our locality with Jyotovision, an inverted safe umbrella on the roof of a shop which used to be on a radio or TV station. The name Jyotovision didn’t seem like Doordarshan but curiosity had definitely increased. In those days, new movies were shown only on TV or VCR and there was such a demand for them that people would often watch 3 movies in a day. Watching a movie on VCR was also like a festival with the whole family or relatives. Having color TV and VCR in homes was a sign of wealth. Library shops of video casts were also common.

Jyotivision was different from video cassette or VCR shops and was also the center of attraction for all of us. Didn’t understand what would actually happen with the dish. Then suddenly one day I saw one of my neighbor uncles hanging some wires from the balcony of his house. It was not connected to the electric pole wire and hence was lying just touching the Jyotivision cable wire. Looking at it, it was clear that it was not for electricity. The curiosity was increasing every day, because uncle used to hang the wire at a fixed time every day. Finally, one day the mystery was revealed when all of us children suddenly reached his house. We all children have our own excuses, our hair has reached the roof. We couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw that a new movie was coming on TV and that too without any VCR.

Uncle then told that this is the cable of Jyotivision and it is not the wire of cable TV. If you keep the TV antenna wire near it, the signal is caught and you can watch cable TV. Cable TV was a completely new thing in our time when changing the channel itself was a new thing. Where there were 12 channels and the TV itself had a knob to rotate them. Well, with the revelation of Uncle’s secret, all of us children became engineers by connecting the wires from behind our TV to cable TV. Then that time has not come that somehow it should be clearly visible through cable TV. We all had the compulsion that father should not come to know otherwise all the entertainment would stop. Then after a few days, father also came to know and after a few days Jyotivijan’s connection was also established.

One truth is that after that, who knows how many channels started coming, who knows how much entertainment got multiplied, but the one who watched cable TV quietly and without wires was different.

We remember that when cable TV came on the wire for the first time, we thought what a thing we have discovered. There should be some small reward
